Therapy Canine Sage

Meet Sage. A beautiful black Labrador that is making friends everywhere she goes!

Sage and her handler share an unexplainable and deep bond that is like no other her handler has had with an animal before. They seem to intuitively understand each other’s needs. It’s even different than the relationship she has with her personal dogs.

Sage’s personality is a mix of spunkiness and sass. She knows just when to be goofy and bring laughter to those around her, and her handler appreciates how her sass matches her own personality.

Sage works in a school with students and staff, her presence helps to keep a positive environment on challenging days. Her big brown eyes have a way of melting hearts and diffusing negativity.

Consistent training is a key part of Sage’s routine. She’s always reinforcing existing commands and learning new ones. Sage is allowed to wander the classroom and sometimes her nose leads her to yummy snacks the children have dropped or left in the trash cans. We are happy to report her scavenger hunts are unsuccessful! To help with her training, Sage wears her leash as she roams the room and getting better at “leave it”.

Even on days her handler doesn’t feel like going to work Sage makes it easy. When her handler feels overwhelmed or upset, Sage will sit her head on her lap or curl up next to her to help ease things. Sage is such an asset to her handler that she can’t see doing her job without Sage. She is already making positive impressions on students and staff at school; even the guys in the police department love to see and love on Sage.

Sage and her handler are making a difference in their community by fostering a positive atmosphere and spreading happiness. Their teamwork is a testament of the power of the human-canine bond.
