CPT Andrew P. Ross “Drew”

Introducing our service dog in training, who carries a special name with immense significance. Meet "Drew" our loyal pup named in honor of a fallen hero who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

CPT Andrew P. Ross “Drew” was a Special Forces detachment commander assigned to 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne). He died on November 27, 2018 from an improvised explosive device while conducting combat operations in Ghazni Province, Afghanistan. He was 29 years old and had served in the Army for more than seven years. He was on his second overseas tour.

Drew was born and raised in Lexington, VA. He was well known for his infectious smile, his love of dogs, a playful sense of humor and his passion for fitness. He loved playing sports, mostly soccer and lifting weights. Drew graduated from Rockbridge County High School in 2007 and the United States Military Academy at West Point in 2011, commissioning as a Second Lieutenant in the Army.

Ross’s awards include the Bronze Star Medal (2nd award), Purple Heart, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, NATO Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Special Forces Tab, Ranger Tab, Combat Action Badge, Combat Infantry Badge, and Military Free Fall Parachutist Badge.

Drew rests in Section 60 at Arlington National Cemetery.
